Ruxandra Vişan has taught in the English Department since 2002. She was a visting scholar at several international universities (Siena, Utrecht, Oxford), where she conducted research in linguistics. Her courses focus mainly on the history of the English language. In 2009, she defended her PhD thesis, centering upon the history of lexicography and the cultural history of the English language. She published her thesis (Samuel Johnson's Dictionary and the Strategies of Lexicographic Modernity, Bucureşti, EUB, 2009) in the same year. Ruxandra Vişan has coauthored English Grammar and Practice for Advanced Learners. A Text-Based Approach (Bucureşti, Cavallioti, 2006), a book that has been widely used by Romanian students. Since 2007, she has been an editorial assistant for the academic journal “The Annals of the University of Bucharest – Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures”. She is a member of the Centre of Excellence for the Study of Cultural Identity, University of Bucharest.
