The School aims to create a bridge between theory and practice of social research in a number of ways. First, it encourages resource persons and participants to draw extensively on their own experiences of research, policy-making, implementation and evaluation, when working with theoretical literature. Second, it allows more focused policy analysis work. Aimed primarily at those who have recently embarked upon a career in teaching, the program offers a combination of academic experience in the most developed countries and of relevant practical experience in developing countries. The School offers two courses, Social Research and Sociology and Social Work and Community Development, related to each other. While the first course goes in depth with the techniques of social research and impact on policy design, the other serves as a case study for practical implementation.
