The Summer School
Gender and Politics is designed to meet the existing need for developing
a new approach to the teaching of Political Science, History and Cultural
Studies in the region - an approach that would take more notice of the achievements
of Gender Studies and feminist theory. The Summer School is intended for
young academics specialising in various disciplines of the humanities and
social sciences. The purpose of the School is to offer a variety of courses
and teaching approaches that would broaden the participants' perspective
on the political aspects of gender (mostly in the social and historical context)
and the gender aspect of politics, as well as to suggest new ways of teaching
Political Science, History and possibly other subjects from the Gender Studies
perspective. The main emphasis is on an interdisciplinary approach. The course
will consist of the following modules: Political Action, Gender, and Party Politics; Women’s
Political Identity in the Making; Critical Approaches to Gender and Citizenship;
Gender Aspects of National and Religious Movements; Gender Imaging in Mass
Media.
