The Summer School targets junior faculty members
teaching demography, statistics, sociology and ethnic studies in the region,
and plans to aid the development of new teaching tools. It is conceived as
a three-week course combining theoretical sessions with practice sessions
using SPSS software, based on real data sets. The course includes three basic
modules: the first will cover issues and the latest achievements in demography
in terms of methods and areas of research; the second module will present
challenges of empirical surveys in regions with ethnic minorities, including
sample design, selecting samples from imperfect frames, planning financial
costs of the surveys and questionnaire design; the last part of the course
will present modern approaches to the selected issues of data processing
and analysis in the demographic studies related to non-response and statistical
inference with small samples and missing values.
