Departament Of Geomorphology - Pedology

The Department also co-ordinates the postgraduate studies programmes in Dynamic geomorphology and protection of the terrestrial environment. The staff includes three supervisors of doctoral studies and one consultant supervisor. It has collaboration with universities in Great Britain, Italy and France. The department has organised and continues to co-ordinate 9 laboratories: Computer science, Topography-Cartography, Aero-photo etc. This department has been in existence in its present form since 1990. The first academic department of Geography in Romania, founded in 1900 in the interpretation, Physical Geography 1, 2 and 3, Geomorphology, Pedology, and a Photography Laboratory. Faculty of Letters and Sciences, included Geomorphology and Soils specialisation. This department functioned until 1948, with two sub-departments, one of them dealing with Physical Geography, including Geomorphology and Soils. Between 1948 and 1989, these specialisations continued to exist within the Physical Geography or in Special Physical Geography Departments of the Faculty. Since 1990, when the Faculty of Geography was constituted, the Geomorphology and Pedology specialisations have continued their development within a separate Department of Geomorphology and Pedology, comprising a teaching staff of 20:5 professors, 3 readers, 1 lecturer, 8 assistant lecturers, and 3 tutors.
