Departament Of Regional Geography
The Regional Geography Department was founded in 1990. It has a teaching staff of 12: 2 professors, 1 reader, 4 lecturers, 3 assistant lecturers and 2 tutors, together with one consultant professor (Valeria VELCEA). A variety of teaching activities is carried out at all levels of university education, including distance learning and courses for students following the combined Geology-Geography degree programme. Themes covered relate to: world geography (The Continents), romanian geography, environmental geography, world environments and geographical regions, bio-geography, geology, pluri-disciplinary analysis of human effects on the environment, environmental protection, methodology of teaching geography, teaching practice, landscape administration and sustainable development, methodology of the geographical research etc. The staff include three supervisors of doctoral studies in geography (physical and regional geography) and ecology (Professors Ion Marin, Maria Pătroescu and Valeria Velcea).
The department's research activity is to be seen in programmes financed by CSCSU, NCFHE (National Council for the Financing of Higher Education), MCT, The General Council of Bucharest City, ICIM, MLPAT, and Project Bucharest; the department is involved in major research projects on themes generally related to regional changes in environmental elements closely connected with human intervention.
