This department currently has 14 members, including some leading figures in the field. There are internationally recognised specialists covering the fundamental areas of ancient history and archaeology (the Ancient East, history of Greece, history of Rome, Ancient history of Romania, epigraphy etc.).
Members of the department have been and continue to be the initiators of large-scale research programmes, financed by NCRHE (National Council for Research in Higher Education), as well as being the authors of important works of scholarship and members of the most prominent international organisations in the field.
