Hungarian Studies

The Department of Hungarian Studies has been functioning for ten years, and has expanded from four to twelve teaching staff, and has diversified the range of its activities. As well as scholars of Hungarian language and literature, there are currently specialists in ethnology, folklore, semiotics, and Finnish language.

The main objective of the department is the training of specialists in Hungarian, with an excellent knowledge of the language and culture, capable of teaching Hungarian in schools, and of working in related research fields. It should be noted that the department attracts students who are not necessarily ethnic Hungarians, and that it offers broad-based courses in Hungarian studies, not limited to language and literature.

The Department of Hungarian Studies also functions as a research centre, with contacts with other university centres in Romania and abroad (especially in Hungary), and it initiates a variety of research programmes (bilingualism, interferences between Hungarian and Romanian folk cultures, etc.).
