Russian Language and Literature

Through the courses taught in this department, students may acquire knowledge in the field of Russian language and literature. At the theoretical and practical courses, Russian is taught in a contrastive approach with the Romanian. We must add that there are also complementary courses such as: Theory and Practice of Translation, Theory and Practice of the Text. Literature is taught from a historical approach, from folklore until the contemporary period, and from a thematic approach, in specialised optional courses.

The purpose is to develop not only communicative competence, but also cultural knowledge, through literature, philosophical trends, history, the arts, etc., all of which are covered by the course in History of Russian Culture.

The department also provides an annual Master's degree programme.

All the members of the department are involved in research activities oriented towards a comparative approach to language and literature. The results of their research are published in the annual volumes of Filologie Rusă, and earn international recognition. The department organises an annual conference attended by teachers and students of Russian from all over Romania.
