Department of Solid Physics and Electrophysics

The teaching and research activities of this department cover a large part of the field of the physics and technology of the solid. In line with recent discoveries in the field, the members of the department have continued to diversify its directions of study, to include areas such as: physics and technology of the nanostructures, new crystalline and amorphous materials with remarkable properties, behaviour of the solid in external fields, opto-electronic structures and apparatus. As a natural consequence of the diversity of these research directions, and in response to the interest and ability shown by candidates, the department organises a Master's degree in physics and technology of the solid and a programme of postgraduate studies in microtechnologies and integrated opto-electronics. A long-standing collaboration with the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Technical University of Cottbus (Germany), is currently continuing to develop within the framework of the SOCRATES programme.

Head of department - Professor Doctor Dan Brancus
