Department of Statistical Physics and Quantum Mechanics

This department provides general courses for second and third year students, optional courses in quantum physics and specialised courses for the Master's degree in theoretical physics. The department is endowed with two research stations and several professional computers to which full access is open for students elaborating their dissertations under the supervision of the teaching staff of the department. Its principle areas of research are: quantum mechanics of atomic systems and their interaction with electromagnetic radiation, quantum optics, statistical physics and condensed state theory, and mathematical physics. The department has relations of collaboration with staff of the University of Pittsburgh, the Universities of Paris VI and XI, the Aimé Cotto Laboratory, the Centre of Theoretical Physics in Marseille, the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Physics in Amsterdam and the Institute of Space Science at Măgurele.
