The Center for Computational Linguistics within the Faculty of Letters represents the initiative of several reserchers and members of the University who have been steadly and substantially supported by acad. Dan Horia Mazilu, the Dean of the Faculty of Letters (1996-2004). The first step for setting up this centre was taken in June 1999. The Centre functioned unoficially till May 2001, when it was authorized by CNCSIS.
Its headquarters are located in Bucharest University, Faculty of Letters, Edgar Quinet Street 5-7, Bucharest (tel/fax 3134336).
The centre functions as a research centre, without legal personality, financially supported by the Romanian state and/or by research contracts signed with private or state-owned institutions and bodies from Romania or abroad.
In order to achive its aims, the Centre has signed contracts for providing services or for collaborating with some other private or state-owned institutions (institutions for research, organizations, small and middle-sized enterprises, banking institutions and other specialized institutions) from Romania or abroad.
