This centre has the role of corroborating the American
study programmes, both the Master's degree in American Studies and
the American Studies First Degree Programme (4 years full-time), offered
by the University of Bucharest. It offers a centre of documentation and a
lending library. It organises specialised academic meetings together with
other faculties in the University and with the Romanian Association of American
Studies, which ensures the strong interdisciplinary character of the research
work carried out here. In collaboration with the Fulbright Foundation, it
organises lectures by visiting Fulbright teachers from the USA. The ASC is
a documentation and research centre and entertains time-honoured connections
with the Fulbright Foundation and the Romanian Association of American Studies
with a view to organising academic exchanges with American studies programmes
in the U.S. and across Europe, as well as to hosting academic events and
publishing papers and other forms of research work presented on various occasions.
Full access to the ASC is given to undergraduate students of the Faculty
of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of Letters
and Theology, MA students, doctoral students, researchers of American studies,
as well as to highschool teachers trained for projects dealing with American
culture, society and literature. The centre's activity has been constantly
supported by grants from the Embassy of the United States in Bucharest.
