This seminar was created in 1997, within the Ancient History and Archeology Department, and is organised by Professor Mircea BABEŞ. The main purpose of the Seminar is to create a suitable framework for the development of higher education in pre- and proto-historical, Greek, Roman and Medieval archaeology.
The activities of the seminar comprise:
extending and improving the range of courses on offer;
the development of a library (book acquisitions, periodical subscriptions, donations) and its automation; the librarys regular opening as a resource centre for Seminar members;
the use of computers for documentation and research.
Aims include:
to hold regular conferences in the context of the seminar including annual events with outside guests;
to prepare a journal for publication; the creation of an archaeological education module within the Faculty of History, through organised debates within the seminar and exchanges of ideas and experience with similar institutions in Romania and abroad.
The seminar possesses a book collection of some 2,000 titles, which will be improved in coming years through donations and book exchanges; an automated archaeological database is to be created in the near future.
