2010 Annual International Conference - JEWS AND THE CITY. Jews in the urban space, from specificity to interculturality - Bucharest, May 27-28, 2010
The 2010 Annual International Conference of the Goldstein Goren Center at the University of Bucharest will be focusing on how the Jewish minority shaped and was shaped by the urban space along history. The diverse Jewish lifestyles, relations and spirituality patterns, which created a characteristic space within the rich context of urbanism, and their economic expression, artistic values and social ties, will build up the mainframe of discussion, while the following sub-topics, though not exclusively, might prove relevant for the conference panels:
“Usual” and “unusual” Jewish patterns on the urban canvass.
Types of Jewish communities, institutions and peculiarities of traditional life.
Opportunities for intermingling in the urban space: commerce, education, press, health and welfare, arts, leisure etc.
