Activties and duties

The activity of the centre consists of organizing research projects in formal and computational linguistics. The research projects are focused on two major trends:

  1. a conceptual, formal trend, e.g. the use of grammatical theories that can be applied from a computational or formal perspective;
  2. a trend concerned with storing, administrating and processing of empirical data in Romanian through the so-called ” linguistics of corpuses”. The results of this trend will form both an empirical basis for future formalizations and a domain where their reliability may be checked.

The main tasks are:

  • research in natural language processing;
  • the organisation of national and international scientific conferences, scientific seminars and discussions, summer schools, courses for specialization, master programmes;
  • scientific consultancy;
  • participating in projects with international financial support;
  • international scientific cooperation;
  • organization of doctoral programmes in the appropriate fields and specialities approved by the Ministry of Education.
