The Faculty of Physics was founded in 1967 as an
independent branch of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the
University of Bucharest, one century and a half old center of
traditions and outstanding basic and technical science, teaching and
research. Since than, the professors and physics specialists shared
their knowledge and their theoretical and practical experience with
numerous young students preparing them to become specialists in the
field.
Based
on the didactic and scientific traditional experience of their
professors, many of them with important contributions in the progress
of national and international basic physics. The Faculty of Physics
generated both in the past and in our days to numerous physics
professors and researcher working in prestigious laboratories and
universities all over the world.
Today the
Faculty of Physics maintain privileged links with the research groups
of The Physics Institute from Physics platform Magurele, to train
the young Romanian students to be an active part in the teaching
programs and to enjoy the thrills of new discovers in modern physics.
A special
attention is directed also to the permanent improvement of the long
term teaching and research programs designed to respond to the new
and rapidly progress of the science and technique.
The major
goals of the Faculty of Physics are:
The
solid and in-depth training of the students in practical and
theoretical physics in the first 3 years of study.
The
flexibility of the teaching programs in the terminal years (IV and
V) to the young chase a wide variety of specialization recording to
the evolution of the working market and changes to the society.
Promoting
the modern physics in Romania and facilitating the international
scientific exchanges.
A
special attention will be paid to interdisciplinary domains as :
biophysics, medical physics, physics and medium protection , physics
informatics.
Elaboration
of research programs for the students involved in the post
university training (Master) to create the place where the young
Romanian students will have the chance to show their potential and
talent in various research projects, and on a brooder scale to
induced modern physics in our faculty and country.
Training
of students in theoretical and practical physics at doctorate and
pre-doctorate level.
We
hope that our efforts will propel us into a leading role in creating
values in teaching and research of physics and the young graduated
students will be able to choose both from specific jobs as physicist
in universities and research institutes or related jobs in industry
and management, informatics and different services to which modern
physics has important contributions.
According
to their aptitude, talent and aspiration the student may choose from
a large diversity of optional courses so that in the end he/she we
accomplish the best combination of training, vision and value of
their future work.
To
help our students the Faculty of Physics Scientific Council
elaborated the “Student’s Guide” which should be
carefully checked every time by someone have to decide courses
teaching and/or research programs should be chosen. It contains also
the rights and duties of the students, the specific rules of the
European Credits Transfer System and other important information
needed for a propre function of a democratic and civilized
institution in the 21-st century.
I
whish to express my gratitude and appreciation to everyone who has
help me during the writing of this guide and the special to thank
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laura Tugulea for valuable comments and suggestions
made. The excellent meritorial assistance of the students Andrei-Vlad
Antohe and Emil STAN is gratefully acknowledged.
