ODISEI - Omogenitate, Diversitate, Identitate, Spațiu European & Integrare

• a project launched by the Centre of Excellence for the Study of Cultural Identity (Centrul de Excelență pentru Studiul Identității Culturale – CESIC), the only one of the kind in higher education in Romania
• winner of the 2007 national competition
• qualified as a 2-year project (2007-2008)
• aim: debating, analysing and researching the concept of ‘Europe’/‘Europes’ from an interdisciplinary perspective (cultural history, cultural anthropology, history of ideas, cultural studies, mentalities, imagology, sociology, material culture)
• focus on the national / regional / global realtionship and its appended conceptual and factual reverberations (whether tensional or harmonious)
• methodology: identifying common denominators in the variety of cultural phenomena approached and researched, using updated critical vocabulary
• themes:
• Identity or Identities?
• Identitary Texts in a New Perspective
• From Mythological Europe to European Myths
• Occidental(ist) vs. Orient(alist) Identity/ies
• actual resaerch:
• interrogating identitary texts from an integrative perspective (with comparative, interdisciplinary, multicultural, multilingual and conceptual components)
• selecting a corpus of texts of classic and late modernity showing the change in vision regarding ‘Europe’, from classic essentialism to cultural relativism and spatio-temporal determinism
• pursing the identitary line from foundationalist myths to postmodern mythography
• activities: annual conferences on derived themes & volumes comprising papers given on the occasion
