Clasical Philology


Graduates of the Classical Philology degree programme may become school and university teachers, research workers in philological domains (historical and comparative grammar of classical and Indo-European languages, history of classical and Indo-European languages, ancient Literary Theory and History, Aesthetics, Classical Poetics and Stylistics, Ancient Philosophy, Palaeography, Text Criticism, Greco-Roman Epigraphy etc.). They may also include future translators and editors in the field of classical languages and civilisations.

This degree programme is one of the oldest and the most prestigious in the University of Bucharest, with a tradition of more than 125 years. In the recent past, the curriculum was based primarily on the need to train teachers. Since 1990, it has become more flexible, with the aim training classical philologists endowed with a diversity of skills equipping them to play a part in contemporary cultural and social life.
