Applied Modern Language

This degree programme is intended for students who wish to train in English and French language - or English and German - with a view to working in domains other than teaching, such as administration and business. Thus they may choose to work as language specialists (terminologists, legal, economic or financial translators, documentarists) in industrial or foreign trade companies.

In this approach, foreign languages are studied with an emphasis on the language of administration and business.

The four years of study are divided into two cycles. During the first cycle students widen their knowledge of foreign languages and acquire notions of law, economy, IT and translation theory. Students who complete only this cycle may find work as secretaries, interpreters etc. The second cycle is dedicated to a more profound study, with more emphasis on specialised optional courses, and provides a preparation for more specialised work in translation and terminology.

Graduates of this particular department may make an option for a career in either the public sector of private business as follows:

Ø leavers of the first cycle may find employment as office managers, interpreters, documentarists, editors;

Ø graduates holding a degree in applied modern languages may be employed as sworn translators, terminologists within ministries, international organisations, banks, private businesses, trade enterprises or travel agencies.
